Red Teaming Challenges
Red Teaming Exercise With Journalists
September 9, 2024
This AI reporting project in collaboration with Compiler engaged 10 journalists interested in piloting a new tool to investigate the algorithms behind today’s most powerful chatbots. Reporters were invited to a one-day workshop at the Northwestern University Medill School newsroom in Washington, D.C., on Sept. 9, 2024, for hands-on training and talks from experts in data journalism, machine learning and on the current regulatory landscape related to artificial intelligence. The event concluded with dinner at the National Press Club.
The goal of this collaboration was to produce 10 original and impactful articles that utilize the Humane Intelligence tool and explore the potential societal effects of generative AI. The resulting work will be published in a special edition of Compiler.
Benefits for attendees included:
• Exclusive training: Learn to use Humane Intelligence's open source, no-code test and evaluation platform.
• Expert insights: Hear from experts in data journalism, machine learning and on the current regulatory landscape related to artificial intelligence.
• Networking: Connect with fellow journalists and industry leaders.
• Stipend: Receive a stipend to participate in the workshop and to cover costs associated with writing and reporting. Travel costs, food and lodging for one night in Washington, D.C., will also be covered.
This opportunity included journalists living in the North America region (Canada, United States, Mexico and Caribbean).
