As our work continues to expand, we are excited to welcome new board members and advisors whose expertise will help strengthen our efforts across participatory AI evaluation, open source tooling, and global community building.

Amy Sommer, Humane Intelligence Board Member and Vice President of Strategy, Evaluation and Impact, Tides

I’m thrilled to join the Board of Humane Intelligence because there has never been a more critical moment to invest in AI evaluation that can shape the future of AI to be just, responsible, accountable, and equitable. AI has the power to achieve profound change for good – or to cause harm. It’s up to the developers of AI solutions to incorporate evaluation into their development processes to ensure that AI is designed and deployed in ways that mitigate risk and maximize impact for good. Not only is Humane Intelligence providing the infrastructure to do that, but HI is also making these solutions available through open source platforms to make AI evaluation tools accessible to all. It’s critical that we invest in these solutions now – as we’re at a crucial inflection point in the proliferation of AI.

As a human and labor rights researcher working at the intersection of program evaluation & AI applications, I am honored to support the team’s efforts to explore new methods to measure the outcomes and impacts of AI deployments on people and society. We urgently need better evaluation to fail faster in the case of harm, and to accelerate successes that can benefit everyone.

Humane Intelligence, with Mala at the helm, has a wonderful mission and vision to advance exactly these goals, and I am excited and honored to contribute to that work as part of their Advisory Group.

The addition of these board and advisory members reflects an important next step for Humane Intelligence as we continue building the infrastructure, partnerships, and community needed to advance more accountable AI.

Their experience across nonprofit leadership, evaluation, human rights, philanthropy, and AI research will help inform how we grow our work and deepen our impact. We are honored to welcome them into this next chapter and look forward to learning from their guidance and collaboration.
